Originally, my parents were planning to fly out in May to meet Grayson. We expected him to be just over a month old and it was around the time Tim would be back to working extreme hours - perfect timing. Once Grayson was born almost a month early, my parents couldn't wait that long to meet their first grandchild. Mom (Dede) and Dad (Papa) flew out when Grayson was 12 days old and we surprised them at the airport. They were immediately in love.

My dad was able to stay for a week. His work situation is not very flexible & he had to get back, but the week he was here was so sweet. Grayson cuddled right up in his arms to sleep & I couldn't resist saving this moment.
My parents were so helpful while they were here & it was great to be able to rest. They even took me out to eat a couple of times while Tim was at work & I got to practice nursing in public. Which wasn't nearly as difficult as I imagined it would be. Grayson has a knack for knowing when I am about to eat & getting very hungry right at that moment.
While my dad was here we were able to have newborn photos taken of Grayson (more on that later) and I loved that my parents were able to be involved.
Mom was able to stay 2 weeks after dad flew home & she had lots of fun with her new grandson. She brought him books to read, sang songs with him & generally talked a lot more than I did (which is a good thing, because I have a hard time talking as much as I want to in order to stimulate Grayson).

I am so blessed to have parents who are able to fly across the country at such short notice. It is hard to live so far away from family once you start your own family, but we are keeping in touch as much as possible through Skype and FaceTime.
